Social Justice Resources for Parents

Hillside is committed to helping children and families understand the many ways that they can help create a more just and equitable world. We believe that even very young children are able to understand the importance of community service and are able to participate. The single most important thing you can do to teach your young children about building community and social justice is to be a role model for them. During the school year we partner with City of Promise and the Westhaven community to support children and families in Charlottesville with snacks and new shoes. Our monthly coffee and egg drive, in partnership with Hold The Line, supports The Haven's breakfast program for individuals facing homelessness in our community.

As we undertake this work, we also understand that there is a lot to learn about how to raise children to be socially conscious. This page offers resources and readings for parents and educators. Have a resource to add to the list? Great! Please email it to hillsideschool600@gmail.com.
